SafeUT: Connecting Kids in Crisis SafeUT is a new mobile app that connects Utah students in crisis with certified mental health professionals at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI) and sends safety tips to law enforcement or school officials. SafeUT is a confidential and anonymous, two-way communication via one-touch options to Call Crisisline, Chat Crisisline, or Submit a Tip. The services provided through the SafeUT app are available to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Introduced in January 2015 by Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, Utah State Senator Daniel Thatcher and the Utah School Safety and Crisis Line Commission, the new SafeUT mobile app is designed to significantly reduce the number one cause of death in Utah children ages 10-17 – suicide. It also functions as a safety tip line for students to help stop crime.

The mobile app's Crisisline supports those facing relationship difficulties, depression/anxiety, loss and grief, school problems, drug and alcohol problems, self‐harm, suicide and any life challenge that is concerning an individual or someone they care about. This function is currently available to everyone who downloads the app.

The SafeUT app can be used to send a tip to let school officials and/or law enforcement know about harmful situations including: bullying, cyber bullying, threats, violence and gang activity. This new ability allows school officials to potentially diffuse a situation before it gets out of control and/or ends up as a tragic situation. School administrators and staff will be trained on this function to participate in the program.
