CSM -- A New Approach to Personalized Learning CSM is a self-paced online course that uses new personalized learning methods to not only teach math and literacy, but to simultaneously build student success skills and traits like problem-solving, the ability to learn independently, attention-to-detail, persistence, self-reliance, intrinsic motivation and aspects of self-efficacy. CSM accomplishes this by monitoring and responding to specific issues in these skills and traits.
In this talk, you will learn: CSM’s different and important real-world math and literacy skills, how CSM personalizes instruction across both skills and traits; the benefits of mastery-based over competency-based instruction; how to build student self-efficacy through educational technology; and the operational differences between teaching skills and transforming students. You will see a new approach to blended learning built on longer, more strategic interactions with students, driven by real-time student data presented in an innovative coaching interface. And you will learn how CSM implementation is flexible, inexpensive and easy, assisted with multiple ways to access free, meaningful professional development.
CSM addresses practical college- and career-readiness – having a “can-do†attitude supported by the skills and personal traits that are important for success in anything you do. CSM provides an authentic environment for students to practice their learning, and then partners with teachers to provide appropriate feedback (including a profusion of positive feedback). Note that the same CSM course that your students will take is also used by managers in large corporations.
This talk will be interesting to experts in educational technology, but requires no background in adaptive or blended learning. Extensive question-and-answer time will be provided.
